[Santaco EVS] April: "If you never sleep you never wake up"

April has been absurd. It has been a rare mixture of summer and winter alternating every day or sometimes every three hours.

If time went through oscillations and swirls the same thing happened in our lives. This month was filled with travel and visitors from different parts of Europe. Friends camped in our living room while others occupied the bed of who decided that April was a good time to fly crazy like a bat.

It all started during the first week for the Easter holidays. From Lyon came Guillaume's first friend, Lucas, bringing crazy party nights while Selin's sister and her friends came from Austria to visit Barcelona and take the winter coat home (haha Selin had too much hope for this spring). At the same time I was in Granada and Sa’ri's birthday arrived. He went on an excursion to the mountain and then in Barcelona to celebrate in a very Hungarian way with a friend from Hungary: drinks and alcohol. They told me stories of her coming home not exactly sober and I imagine the grace of this situation because she has always been the most mature and responsible of us.

When I returned from my vacation back to the routine was quite traumatic, especially because that routine did not last more than two days. We went to a Room Escape with all members of the Mundus team plus interns and other volunteers. We ended up divided into four groups competing in the same game in search of the exit. No doubt they highlighted the most competitive souls but that peculiarity did not win them. They say that women have a harder time getting along with each other and creating a united team. During our game that stereotype was not fulfilled: the only team that had only women won. Girls are smarter than boys; it is a fact.

Two days of life all together on the floor and Sa´ri went to Hungary while new friends, Assia and Tamara, came to see Guillaume hitchhiking from France. His arrival meant going to a very cool vermuteria and discovering the deceptive Pantera Milk, a drink that tastes like childhood, milk, sugar and cinnamon, but has nothing to do with innocence. It takes gin, rum or brandy but it is almost impossible to notice alcohol. No burning in the throat, no signs or alerts that can save you from the inevitable drunkenness. Our salon won new posters and a painting, a gift from one of the guests. The same weekend Selin went to Berlin and traveled quite a lot in the nearby cities, probably taking many photos (you can see them on his Facebook and Instagram Selin Aksoy, @selinismus).

Sa’ri returned from Hungary after a very intense week; It was not the best period of his life (send hugs). Then, on a Monday, my birthday arrived (it is usually a tragic occurrence; I don't like to remember the fact that I have come to the world) and it was actually a beautiful day between congratulations, gifts and cakes. We also went to a Holy festival, an Indian celebration for the arrival of spring with dances and colored dust that each one casts on the others. It was a very happy time for Sa’ri, Selin and me; Seeing the traditional dances of many Indians living in Santa Coloma was amazing and soon the only things that were still white were the people's smiles, although I have to admit that we all ate a good dose of colors.

The weekend after my birthday was my turn in Berlin, where I saw some of my closest friends. I seemed to be in Venice, at home, but in a city where all the art exhibitions you wanted to see are happening here and now; Everything happens always.

Meanwhile, another weekend of music and dancing in the street was arriving in Barcelona and Nico and Guillaume's families came to see their children. We were never all five together on the floor. There were always two or seven people, without intermediate.

New friends from France arrived and finally we managed to go to the Ovella Negra, a giant pub where we ended up dancing on the tables and playing in groups with the people who passed in front of the site. At the end of April there were again visits while Selin went to Morocco on a trip he dreamed of months ago. He fell in love with a camel and Marrakech puppy, learning to never drink sugar-free Arabic tea and experiencing the total incoherence of listening to Ed Sheeran during a desert excursion. Sa’ri at that time was visiting an ecological town in northern Catalonia.

All this is only a small summary of all the movement that was this month. Then come the news of the work.

Center Rialles is very happy to have Nico, who organized a pizza night with the kids: they prepared the dough all together and the next day they cooked it under the supervision of a true Italian. He also began his work with adults with disabilities and a class of children with autism, finding a way to communicate and interact with everyone very quickly. At the same time it continues with the Catalan classes in which it knows the traditions of the region.

Sa’ri, despite the difficult time he had, is doing superhero workshops with the children of his center and his Spanish is improving day by day.

Guillaume called one of his boys "Roje" for three months until the kid came to tell him that his name was really Jorge. Poor Guillaume spent five days repeating "Jorge" to get him wrong.

Selin arrives every day amazed by the boys from her center who she taught how to make paper roses. He still has some difficulties with the language and does not understand how it is possible for his students to find English so difficult; Compared to Spanish it is a pass.

As you can see we have not been together at home or in the same country for more than two days in a row. There were many people coming and going all the time, a fact that has been great but also very intense. Meeting new people and traveling to see family and friends all at the same time can be very stressful emotionally. Sometimes it is necessary to stand and focus to reverse emotions in a single universe; constantly changing dimensions can enrich a lot but it is very difficult to have everything under control. In my case, for example, sometimes it has been too much. This month I found myself tired many times, super happy or super sad without much balance. I want to focus more on my life here in Santa Coloma.

Traveling and being involved in many things makes you feel alive but also "sleeping in your own bed" can be beautiful, or at least be able to do it for more than three days in a row. Seeing so many people who are important to you in different places and one behind the other was very tired. Guillaume reached the point that on a Saturday he had to claim a day off on his days-already-free. He refused to leave anyway. His response to the people who invited him was: "Today is my day off, I'm not going anywhere," while lying on the couch. I had to be alone on the beach at night to fully understand where I was and why.

Emotions and changes are vital, but when they all occur at the same time and with some intensity it is overwhelming. The sleeping mode is something that all devices have and now I understand why it is so necessary. It's all fun and games, but if you never sleep you can't wake up either.
